view 6: zircote, yellowheart, sapele, BOX

view 8: white mulberry, bloodwood, curly maple, BOX

BOX: the brown wood in the very middle is walnut and above and below it are pieces of paela. To the left and right, moving up and down from the walnut are pieces of yellowheart. On the outer left and right sides are pieces of bocote and tiny wedges of ? (unknown dark brown wood).

flaws/issues: The white mulberry piece in view 2 was deliberately chosen for its extreme grain pattern even though I could see that it had character (knot, wormhole, minor crack). The white mulberry in view 8 has a crack which I did NOT know was there ... that IS a flaw, albeit a minor one.

comments: The BOX in this one was influenced by Navhoe rug designs I saw in the American Southwest in the 1950's. The paela in view 1 is from the best piece of that species that I've ever worked, with a much move uniform deep orange color than is often the case with this wood, where the best color is usually just a patina about a eighth of an inch or so thick.

The sapele in views 4 and 6 has a quartersawn surface that has nice ray flakes and is lightly chatoyant, as is the yellowheart that is outside each of those pieces.
