S1 --- $SOLD --- this is the orientation view --- more pics down below

diameter: 8 1/2"
height: 3 1/2

finish: one application of natural stain and then 3 coats of high gloss spar polyurethane (with UV blocker)

NOTE: as you can see from the bowl blank below, this wood is natually near-white and the application of the natural stain and polyurethane causes a strong shift to yellow. This is unavoidable with maple, although it is my understanding that there is at least one special finish that has a greatly reduced yellow shift. I don't work with solid woods much and have not explored that option. I find both the original white and the final yellowish tan attractive so while I do not like to cause significant shifts in the color of wood this one just has to be an exception.

WOODS USED: solid spalted maple with a walnut base

flaws/issues: There is a gross flaw line in the bowl (natural to the wood) that I have filled with glue, which unfortunately is quite obvious.

comments: the wall is quite thick on this one because I did not want the innner curve to dig any further into the flaw line (see the rear of view 5c below). Despite the major flaw, this is a marvelous piece of spalted maple
