video for bowl N116

the woods used

N116 --- $55.00

diameter: 8 1/2"
height: 3 1/4"
shipping weight: 3lb 1oz (when asking about shipping costs, please don't forget to give me your zip code)

finish: 4 coats of high gloss spar polyurethane (with UV blocker) topped with a coat of flat clear enamel to remove the shine.

COMMENTS: The woods around the rim are all quite nice but the curly paela along the upper left is particularly pretty. I really like the way the ebony veneer set off the two pieces of silky oak in side view #2.

This one is a bit more hefty than most of my bowls since I turned both the rim and the bottom a bit thicker than I usually do.

I ALWAYS POINT OUT ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE COMMENTED ON. THESE ARE (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED) THINGS THAT DO NOT DETRACT FROM THE BEAUTY OF THE BOWL, BUT I WANT TO BE SURE I GIVE A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. SO ...

There is a thin stress separation between the bottom piece of kuruguay and the sapele that is above it. This is shown in an accompanying image. You can see it (though it's not very obvious looking at the top --- more so on the bottom) and you can feel it when you run your finger along the top or bottom. There is a more visible stress separation along the thick piece of birch veneer in the middle of the bowl. Weirdly, it separates on top on the left side but on the bottom of the right side. This one is visibly obnoxious and because of it I have priced the bowl much lower than I otherwise would.
