video for bowl N107

N107 --- $110.00

diameter: 8 1/2"
height: 2 1/2"
shipping weight: 2lb 9oz (when asking about shipping costs, please don't forget to give me your zip code)

finish: one coat of natural stain then 6 coats of satin-finish spar polyurethane (with UV blocker)

COMMENTS: very nice, sharp, clean middle; I like the way the double-thick ebony veneer sets off the woods there and how there's a good color contrast because of it. Because of the way it's cut/turned, the zebrawood on the right outer rim shows a quartersawn face on the upper rim and a flat cut face on the lower rim and likewise the wenge on the top outer rim shows a flat cut face on the upper rim and a quartersawn face on the lower rim. People who are not wood aficionados won't care much about that but I point it out for those who are. Contrast those to the bocote in on the lower left rim which shows rift cut faces on both the upper and lower rim surfaces.

I ALWAYS POINT OUT ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE COMMENTED ON. THESE ARE (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED) THINGS THAT DO NOT DETRACT FROM THE BEAUTY OF THE BOWL, BUT I WANT TO BE SURE I GIVE A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. SO ... The small burl wedge at the bottom of the middle has some small voids that are characteristic of burls so it's character, not a flaw, at least so say I   :-)

LATER: all of the osage orange pieces have darkened to brown and although this does reduce the visual impact of the bowl (as you can tell from the bowl blank image below), it is still QUITE attractive but because of it I have reduced the price from $140 to $110
