N030 --- $SOLD --- this is the orientation view --- more pics down below

diameter: 9"
height: 2 1/2"

finish: one application of natural stain then two coats of high gloss spar polyurethane (with UV blocker)

WOODS USED: [SEE DISCUSSION ON THE MAIN PAGE OF THIS SITE IF ANY OF THIS IS UNCLEAR]

base: mahogany

view 1: osage orange (yellowheart?), mahog, BOX

view 2: zircote

view 3: bocote, canary, cowtree, bubinga

view 5: shedua, paela, bocote, chechem, yew, african blackwood, padauk, box

view 7: bocote, paela, cowtree, bubinga

view 8: zircote

BOX: a red aromatic cedar wedge sided by cocobolo sided by osage orange

flaws/issues: There is a discoloration at the very center due to poor lathe technique --- it SHOULD have been sanded out but obviously wasn't.

comments: a REALLY outstanding set of wood in this one. Everything is terrific and the cocobolo in the middle is a real standout.

I deliberately avoided total symmetry about the view 1 - view 5 line by making views 3 and 7 have the bocote backed by different woods

view 1c --- although the zircote looks almost pure black in this view, you can see in view 7b directly below that the grain actually does show up.

views 5d and 8a

view 1a when it was just a bowl blank --- notice how much lighter the zircote is before the polyurethane was applied, and that the other woods haven't changed color much, just become a little deeper and richer.
