BIRDSONG FAIRY TRAIL

Margie saw an article about the Birdsong Fairy Trail in Mendon Park, near Rochester NY.
It's about a 2 hour drive from our house but it was a BEAUTIFUL Saturday so we decided to
go check it out and we had a wonderful most-of-the-day outing.

The original Internet article describing the 2-mile trail and how it came to be is at
Fairy Trail

This one is out of order, but seemed appropriate for the whole trail
"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you
because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." - Roald Dahl

For many of these, I've shown the fairy house as it exists in the tree
and then a closeup showing the details. The "houses" are generally just a door,
either painted onto a healed cut in the side of a tree, or attached to the side of the tree.

The sunlight swamped my view screen so some of the pics came out with very poor focus

These two were on opposing trees with a bridge between them.

This is the only one we saw with a door that actually opened.
The whole construct was clearly added onto the side of the tree.

Notice the stairs cut into the stump under the horseshoe entrance.

The pic on the right was taken from one of the benches along the trail,
looking out along the edge of the part of the forest we were in.
Although there were occasional other folks along the trail,
it was extremely peaceful and we could hear the birds that
gave the trail the first part of its name.

There were numerous swings at various places.
Apparently the fairies really like to swing.

The sign was on one side of the tree and the hole on the other

I could see something inside the hole but could not tell
what it was, so I stuck the camera into the hole and
turned on the flash, and got this.

A pic of this one was in the article that attracted us to the park in the first place.

The details of this one are directly below

The one on the right was just painted on a rock with a painted acorn in a gap in the rock.

SO ... two miles of trail through an old-growth forest
on a bright sunny day with birds singing and
little fairy houses to marvel at
A very enjoyable afternoon.
