N40 --- $55.00 --- this is the orientation view --- more pics down below
diameter: 6 3/4"
height: 2 1/2"
finish: one application of natural stain then two coats of high gloss spar polyurethane (with UV blocker)
WOODS USED: [SEE DISCUSSION ON THE MAIN PAGE OF THIS SITE IF ANY OF THIS IS UNCLEAR]
base: mahogany
view 1: makore, oasage orange over walnut, yellowheart, BOX
view 2: mahogany (? could be sapele),
view 3: goncalo alves backed by cypress
view 4: narra, pine
view 5: machiche, unknown light wood, BOX
view 6: lamination of walnut and a maple thin, then red elm, BOX
view 7: pine(?), walnut, wedge of unknown light wood, BOX
BOX: bocote in the middle and the rest is pine and thick mahogany veneer
flaws/issues: the cypress in view 3 has a very noticible edge flaw where it joins view 2. This is due to cross-grain turning and it is VERY obvious to the fingernail
comments: I put the box off-center on purpose but I'm not all that crazy with how it turned out. Instead of looking interesting, I think it just LOOKS off-center. [Anyone ever notice what a poor salesman I am? Well, what the heck, I priced it low.]
views 1c and 7b
view 5d
view 6a showing, at the very rear, the edge flaw in the cypress
view 7c as the bowl blank, then 7a raw (fresh off the lathe), then 7a with a coat of natural stain, then 7a as the finished bowl
