height: 2 1/4"
finish: one application of natural stain then 3 coats of high gloss spar polyurethane (with UV blocker)
WOODS USED: [SEE DISCUSSION ON THE MAIN PAGE OF THIS SITE IF ANY OF THIS IS UNCLEAR]
base: Peruvian walnut
view 1: bocote, wenge, osage orange, BOX
view 3: cypress, aromatic red cedar, mahogany, BOX
view 5: aromatic red cedar then zircote both over mahogany, yew, BOX
view 6: canary
view 7: sipo(?), padauk, then a section that is red aromatic cedar on the left, red oak in the middle, and then on the right redwood, red oak, walnut, then the BOX. On the bottom is yew.
view 8: aromatic red cedar, red oak
BOX: on the left redheart and on the right pine. On the top cocobolo. In the middle from the left: ?(red maple?), redheart, chechem, yew, sapele, bocote, redheart, maple veneer, redheart
flaws/issues: The yew under view 7 has a thin crack, as does the redheart next to the chechem in the BOX. The zircote in view 5 has a thin crack that runs just under the rim and then comes up into the rim at the side. These are all minor.
There is a hairline stress separation at the top of the BOX. You can just barely see it but it is noticeable to the touch (although not by too much).
comments: The chechem in the box has some very nice light streaking and was chosen for that reason. I think the yew under the bowl in view 7 looks particularly nice and I regret that it's on the bottom, not the top.
